This Is Your Music Cred on Drugs…Any Questions?

I’m here to talk about a disorder that 10 million other men like me, suffers from. I have cannabis-induced music over-appreciation disorder. CIMOA strikes 7 out of 10 men, usually between the ages of 17 and 25, affecting not only their lives, but the lives of their loved-ones as well. But did you know that men over 25 are also susceptible to CIMOA? In fact, men of any age can get it because as long as you’re using cannabis, you’re at risk. Not all men with CIMOA know that they have it so it’s important to know the signs.

*Do you ever find yourself thinking that you’ve never really given hip-hop the artistic respect and attention it deserves? Acceptance of hip-hop is an early indicator and one of the most common symptoms of CIMOA.

*Have you ever perked up at the sound of a Spin Doctors song, either in public or privately? Kelly Clarkson? Barry Manilow?

*Have you ever had itchy red bumps of pretentiousness that make you believe that a vinyl record has a depth of sound that CDs and MP3s can never attain?

*Do you believe that song lyrics are eerily relevant to your life, feelings, relationships, crushes, break up or other specific circumstances more often than once a month?

*Are conversations about bands and music with friends commonly followed by an “over-appreciation hang-over” of shame and embarrassment the next morning?

*Have you ever found yourself imprisoned by unexpected break-outs of wishing you were more into:
-world music
-classic rock
-reggae
-classical
-folk
-modern jazz
-cock rock
-techno/house/trance
-motion picture soundtrack scores

Or music by artists like:
Cat Stevens
Barenaked Ladies
Dave Matthews Band
KORN
-James Taylor
Jimmy Buffet
Tori Amos
-311
Sarah McLachlan
Madonna
-Cyprus Hill
-ANY performer with Marley or Zappa in their name?
-…or (God help you) Insane Clown Posse

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions you’re probably suffering from CIMOA and dealing with it every day. There is no treatment or prescription medicines for CIMOA right now but studies show that those who know the signs are less likely to have regular break-outs. So in the meantime, monitor yourself. Watch for the signs in yourself and the ones you love because as long as you’re using cannabis you’re at risk. Wait. Did I say that already?

For more information about CIMOA, talk to your doctor or call the number you see on your screen, right now.

Learn about CIMOA and stop embarrassing yourself. As often.

  1. You are spot on about this. I think several guys I know are suffering from CIMOA. 🙂

  2. I have always considered Hawkwind to be some of the finest musicians with the most profound songs of all time. Is this a symptom of CIMOA I suffered while at their concerts or a product of CIMOA I am suffering now?
