Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III (1990)
(1990)
I saw this in the theater as a teenager and new it was crap even then. In what’s easily the most pedestrian installment of the TCM series, the Sawyer family is inexplicably packed with a new roster of crazies (including a creepy Wednesday Addams-type and Viggo Mortsen), with only Leatherface the consistent hold-over from the prior films. A yuppie couple stupidly stumbles upon the cannibal clan and set themselves up for a night full of running and screaming. Dawn of the Dead‘s Ken Foree is a survivalist who injects some unintentional laughs and, really, the movie’s only real merit. The violence was watered down by the MPAA before its theatrical release, but there’s no evidence that gore could contribute much to make this worth your time. The cuts do, however, demolish a lot of the continuity making the story incoherent. For completionists only. (It did have a pretty great teaser trailer though.)
