Anaconda (1997) Reviewed

ANACONDA ( 1997 )
With a plot that seems to play homage to Creature of the Black Lagoon, Anaconda limps forward with good intentions and botched execution. The primary problem is predictability and the title star that looks like it slithered out of a Pixar cartoon. Jon Voigt and a camera crew that includes Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube and Eric Stolz cruise down a jungle river in pursuit of the film’s namesake. The trip is predictably soured as a giant anaconda begins to dispatch the crew in the order you’d expect. Jennifer Lopez’s wet, white-clad ass walks away with much of the second act. Stolz spends most of the film sick and recovering off-screen. Voigt hams it up like the hammiest ham to ever ham a ham and is puked up by the snake (!). Anaconda is predictable but almost endearing in its simplicity. It was nominated for no fewer than four Razzies (which it did not deserve) the year of its release.
