The Doom Generation (1995) Reviewed
DOOM GENERATION, THE (1995)
“Edgy” to the point of absurdity, Greg Araki’s “first heterosexual” film is grating in just about every regard. It’s basically a road movie. Rose McGowan, her tits and her boyfriend (James Duvall) end up driving a psychopath – but you know, the sexy kind — all around what’s presumably LA dodging the cops and maintaining a pretty steady crimespree. Trust me, that sounds better than it is. This movie was my introduction to Rose McGowan and it almost made me hate her – but then, about a third of the way into the movie, um…there’s this bathtub scene…and um- well, it’s at least worth an extra half a star. For lighter Araki fare see the far better Nowhere and Smiley Face.
